Overview
A fire pump station must deliver design flow and pressure even if mains power fails, so it usually has a diesel pump or a dedicated priority supply. The jockey pump keeps the network pressurised.
Projects to international standards use UL/FM-listed pumps and controllers installed to NFPA 20. The fire water tank, suction piping and flow testing are part of the pump station.
Uses
- 01Fire pump rooms of factories and warehouses
- 02Towers and shopping centres
- 03Industrial parks, ports and chemical stores
- 04Pump stations for foam and deluge systems
Selection and acceptance checks
- Check pump curves and listing (UL/FM if required)
- Flow-test at 100% and 150% of rated flow
- Check auto-start, diesel pump and fuel tank
Reference standards
- NFPA 20
