Overview
AAC is made from sand or fly ash, cement, lime and an aerating agent, then autoclaved at high temperature and pressure. Low density reduces loads on the frame and foundations, and accurate dimensions allow thin-bed mortar.
AAC absorbs more water than dense blocks, so dedicated mortar, render and waterproofing details are needed on external walls. Long walls need ties, lintels and movement joints.
Uses
- 01External and internal walls of high-rise buildings
- 02Office and admin buildings at factories
- 03Fire-rated walls by thickness
- 04Buildings where weight must be reduced
Selection and acceptance checks
- Check strength class and density per lot
- Use thin-bed mortar and dedicated render
- Check wall ties, lintels and waterproofing details
Reference standards
