Overview
Concrete blocks are made on vibro-press machines and cured naturally or by steam, giving uniform size and consistent strength. Vietnam encourages non-fired masonry instead of fired clay bricks to save farmland and cut emissions.
Hollow blocks are lighter and can take bars and core-fill concrete to form load-bearing or tall boundary walls. Moisture must be controlled when laying to avoid shrinkage cracks.
Uses
- 01External and boundary walls of factories
- 02Walls of technical areas
- 03Load-bearing walls of low-rise buildings
- 04Retaining walls and manholes
Selection and acceptance checks
- Check strength grade and water absorption per lot
- Check dimensions and chips on delivery
- Make sure blocks are cured long enough before laying
Reference standards
- TCVN 6477:2016
- ASTM C90
