Overview
Circular sections are symmetrical and perform well in compression and torsion, so they are used for space frames, arched roofs, porch columns and steel pipe piles. ERW pipe covers small and medium diameters; spiral-welded or seamless pipe covers large diameters and high pressures.
Structural tube (JIS G 3444, ASTM A500) differs from line pipe (ASTM A53, API 5L) in pressure testing and chemistry. Orders should state the outside diameter, wall thickness and standard.
