Overview
Hot-rolled sections are rolled from billets at high temperature into standard H and I shapes listed in the mill’s section tables. The cross-section is uniform, mechanical properties are consistent and no built-up welding is needed, which suits standard-size members on fast schedules.
Common grades are SS400 to JIS, A36 and A992 to ASTM, or S275 and S355 to EN 10025-2. When a member is larger than the section tables or needs a tapered depth, engineers usually switch to a welded built-up H beam.
Uses
- 01Columns and rafters of factory frames
- 02Floor beams and transfer beams in high-rise buildings
- 03Crane girders and runway beams
- 04Equipment supports and access platforms
Selection and acceptance checks
- Match the grade and standard against the mill certificate
- Check dimensional tolerances and straightness to the product standard
- Check that the heat number on each bar matches the certificate
