      FAQ

      Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions investors ask most about general contracting.

      Schedule a technical consultation
What does an industrial general contractor do?

An industrial general contractor builds the facility from the investor’s approved design: it plans and manages the construction, executes its own packages, coordinates specialist subcontractors and hands over the completed facility with its records.

How is general contracting different from Design & Build?

Under general contracting, the design is done by the investor’s design consultant and World Steel builds it. Under Design & Build, World Steel or its partner is also responsible for the design. Both are explained on their own pages.

Our design is not finished. Can you still help?

Yes. We can review the design status, list what is missing for construction, or propose a Design & Build or EPC arrangement if that suits the project better.

Which packages does World Steel carry out itself?

The construction scope section marks each item as direct (our own teams and factory), partner (qualified specialist subcontractors under our management) or coordination. Your proposal states the split for your project.

How are subcontractors selected and managed?

Through prequalification, a defined scope, a subcontract, and monitoring of progress, quality and HSE. They work under World Steel’s site plan and procedures.

Who is responsible for the subcontractors’ work?

Responsibility follows the contract and the delivery model. Where subcontractors are engaged by World Steel, World Steel manages them towards the investor under the main contract.

      Who does the fire protection?

Fire protection is designed, installed and accepted by units that meet the legal conditions. World Steel coordinates them within the programme; appraisal and acceptance are procedures of the investor with the fire police.

Do you obtain the construction permit?

The investor is the applicant for permits and appraisals. We prepare construction records and support the procedures, but we do not approve them.

      How are variations handled?

Each change is recorded with its cost and time impact and goes to the investor for approval before the work is done.

      Which reports will we receive?
