Overview
Epoxies build thick, hard films with good adhesion and resistance to moisture and chemicals. Epoxy intermediates (often with micaceous iron oxide, MIO) add barrier thickness between the zinc primer and the topcoat.
Epoxy chalks under UV, so outdoor systems need a polyurethane topcoat. The system follows the corrosivity category and durability range (low, medium, high, very high) of ISO 12944.
Uses
- 01Intermediate coats of steel protection systems
- 02Steel in plants with chemicals or humidity
- 03Tanks and pipelines
- 04Steel in cold stores and food plants
Selection and acceptance checks
- Check overcoating intervals between coats
- Measure DFT per coat and for the whole system
- Pull-off or cross-cut adhesion tests when required
Reference standards
- ISO 12944-5
- ISO 12944-6
- SSPC-SP 10
