Overview
Oil-immersed transformers are common in outdoor substations for their cost and overload capacity; cast-resin dry-type units are used indoors, in basements and data centres because they contain no oil and reduce fire risk.
Rating follows the calculated load plus expansion allowance. Efficiency and no-load and load losses must meet current regulations; substations need fire protection, oil pits and adequate ventilation.
Uses
- 01Plant and warehouse substations
- 02Basement transformer rooms in towers
- 03Data centres (dry-type)
- 04Step-up substations for solar farms
Selection and acceptance checks
- Check factory test reports and losses
- Site tests before energising
- Check oil pit, ventilation and substation fire protection
