Overview
Direct strike protection uses air terminals or a mesh on the roof, down conductors and the earth termination; metal roofs and steel frames can act as natural components when they qualify. Surge protective devices (SPD) protect switchboards and electronics.
Design follows TCVN 9385:2012 or IEC 62305, starting with a lightning risk assessment. Earth resistance must be measured at acceptance and checked periodically, especially before the rainy season.
Uses
- 01Factories, warehouses and towers
- 02Data centres and electrical rooms
- 03Solar plants and substations
- 04Tanks and fuel stores
Selection and acceptance checks
- Measure earth resistance at acceptance and periodically
- Check exothermic welds and equipotential bonding
- Check SPDs at main switchboards
Reference standards
- TCVN 9385:2012
- IEC 62305
- NFPA 780
For reference only. The standards for each project follow its design documents, current Vietnamese codes and the investor’s requirements.
