Overview
Purlins are roll-formed from coated coil, typically with a yield strength from G350 to G450. Z purlins can be lapped over supports to act as continuous beams, which reduces the gauge needed compared with simply supported C purlins.
Design follows AISI S100 or AS/NZS 4600 and needs purlin bridging (sag rods) against buckling. The coating is specified by mass (for example Z275 or AZ150) and governs life in corrosive environments.
Uses
- 01Roof purlins of factories and warehouses
- 02Wall girts
- 03Rooftop solar mounting frames
- 04Secondary framing of canopies
Selection and acceptance checks
- Check base steel thickness and coating mass (Z275, AZ150…)
- Check yield strength on the certificate (G350, G450)
- Check punched hole positions and lengths
