Overview
The outdoor fire main is a ring main with sectional valves and hydrants at the spacing required by code. Pillar hydrants are easy to see and operate; underground hydrants are used where space is tight.
Outdoor mains are usually buried ductile iron or HDPE pipe, fed from the fire pump station or the industrial park network with enough pressure and flow.
