Overview

Spray fireproofing costs less per square metre than intumescent paint for the same rating, especially at 120 minutes and above. Its rough finish means it is usually used above ceilings, in warehouses and petrochemical plants.

Thickness and density are checked to ASTM E605. Some sections need reinforcing mesh, and the layer must be protected from impact and water in service.

Uses

  • 01Steel above ceilings and in plant areas
  • 02Petrochemical plants and hazardous stores
  • 03High fire ratings (R120 and above)
  • 04Deck and secondary beams in towers

Selection and acceptance checks

  • Measure thickness and density to ASTM E605
  • Check bond and reinforcing mesh
  • Protect the layer from impact and water

Reference standards
