Overview
Hot-dip galvanizing coats inside and outside surfaces, edges and the inside of tubes, and gives cathodic protection at small scratches. Coating thickness depends on steel thickness and steel chemistry (silicon, phosphorus).
Design needs vent and drain holes, no sealed boxes and member sizes that fit the galvanizing bath. A paint system can be added on top (duplex) to extend life in marine and chemical environments.
Uses
- 01Outdoor steelwork and coastal plants
- 02Solar mounting structures and substations
- 03Handrails, stairs and grating floors
- 04Cold stores and food plants
Selection and acceptance checks
- Measure coating thickness with a magnetic gauge to the standard
- Inspect the surface for zinc lumps, bare spots and flaking
- Check vent holes on shop drawings before galvanizing
Reference standards
- ASTM A123
- ISO 1461
- ASTM A153
For reference only. The standards for each project follow its design documents, current Vietnamese codes and the investor’s requirements.
